For Immediate Release

HALIFAX, NS – June 27, 2017 – RBC is committing $125,000 to the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth Capital Campaign in support of the vision to help ensure that the YMCA is able to expand its capacity to welcome all members of our community and bring people together – helping them build networks and develop in an inclusive and diverse environment. RBC also showed early leadership as one of the YMCA’s first private sector partners that came on board support of the new facility.

“RBC is focused on helping youth in our community who face barriers to entry in the job market as well as their health and wellness,” says Roger Howard, President of RBC Atlantic Canada Region. “This partnership with RBC and the YMCA will encourage young adults to be physically active, become involved in their community and be their best selves possible to help build a brighter future, together, for all in Halifax.”

In honour of RBC’s focus on inclusion and supporting youth in our community, RBC will be recognized within the new John W. Lindsay YMCA facility at the Welcome Desk and in the cardio and cross training area of the Health & Wellness Centre. The Welcome Desk will be the service hub that will welcome, assist and support members and visitors alike. The health and wellness-based youth programming focused on fitness, strength and group training will be supported by the cardio and cross training equipment.

“The YMCA works to connect and engage people across ages, income levels and cultures, supporting any and every person in our community who is ready to make healthy choices, develop themselves, and become part of a nurturing, inclusive community,” says Peter Doig, Chair of the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth Board of Directors. “Through this new facility, youth in our community will be have increased opportunities to connect with others, develop themselves, and take advantage of mentorship, leadership and volunteer opportunities that will give them the confidence, skills, networks, and experience they need to help them unlock their potential. Further support from the YMCA’s eight Nova Scotia Works employment centres will also play a key role in helping them secure employment.”
