Arriving in a new country is tough – especially for youth and young adults…
The YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs recognizes that moving to a new country can be especially difficult for young people.
Our Youth Outreach program focuses on newcomer youth between the ages of 13 and 18 and our Young Adult Program for those 18-25 years, who are at risk, in, or are expecting to be in crisis, or who experience chronic stress. We tailor our activities to current events, and the interests of our youth. Activities are held several times each week throughout the year, with daily activities throughout the summer, and focus on the development of leadership and employment skills, independence, and building a social network. These are all essential skills for creating a sense of belonging combined with the unique settlement needs of this younger demographic.
YMCA Youth Outreach provides:
- Recreational and social activities
- Outings and field trips
- Volunteer opportunities
- Leadership development
- Support for employment and education
- Girls and Guys groups
- Homework Club
- Youth Talk
Our popular Homework Club is offered every Tuesday (September to June) from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at the Keshen Goodman Library.
