How has the YMCA prepared for physical distancing?

A brand new, modern facility allows us to open with state-of-the-art safety features and procedures right from day one. With 70,000 square feet to work with and plenty of bright open spaces, we can welcome a lot of members and participants at the same time, while still keeping everyone safe, distanced and well. Our smart measures to keep you safe include:

  1. A new ventilation system designed specifically for the centre’s activities with hospital-grade air filtration.
  2. An equipment flow that provides a wide selection of equipment and plenty of it, ensuring that social distancing is possible even during busy times. With a full-size gymnasium and spacious fitness studios, a variety of Group Exercise classes can be offered at the same time, so there’s always space for everyone!
  3. A Health, Safety and Compliance Officer to consistently ensure our operations meet all public health regulations and go beyond the expected standards. This includes developing policies, inspecting facilities, auditing and ongoing recommendations.
  4. Rigorous cleaning and disinfecting protocols to ensure a standard of cleanliness excellence for members, volunteers and staff, using products that are Health Canada approved, as well as speciality equipment for disinfecting all high touch areas in the facility.

What are some of the main facility features?

With 70,000 square feet of space, we’ve got something for everyone, including: three pools and a state-of-the-art gym, two levels of strength and cardio equipment, an indoor walking/running/wheeling track, four wellness studios for classes and programming, a childminding centre to support parents and caregivers while they work out, a Child and Family Development Centre with community rooms, and the public Great Hall for everyday gathering, special events and community celebrations.
